Hi Everyone,

This is my first e-mail newsletter.  This e-mail has two purposes one to give out information and the other to advertise my services.  I hope that it can ultimately be a service to those who read it and find it of value.  It comes in response to questions that people ask me.  The question that I am answering is “Dr. Harris what do you do?”  This first newsletter is about the Immune Support Drink (ISD), which I have used almost every day for the last 10 years.  I often don’t talk about it as it seems like it’s just one more thing to add to a persons program, yet I find it valuable enough to make sure I have the ingredients every day.  So, I want to put it out as one of the things that I find valuable for my own health and the health of many who have come to see me.

Originally, I learned about the ISD from a Naturopath in Portland, Oregon, who was having success treating HIV+ patients.  He told me that their immune systems where functioning better and they were having greater health.  Being an experimenter, I decided to try the recipe out for myself even though I don’t have any illness.  I have felt great ever since and recommended it to many over the years.

The recipe originally came from Johanna Budwig who used her formula to cure cancer.  She has written many books and it may still be possible find them.  She had strong convictions that were ahead of the pack about taking and absorbing omega 3 fatty acids (the good ones).  Now it’s common to find that people know about omega 3’s and their value in health.  Omegas 3’s are found in flax oil, cold-water fish; such as Salmon, Sardines, Herring, Cod livers and others.  The current thought is that the smaller the fish the less toxic it is from heavy metal concentration by eating other fish.  The oils that I recommend right now are from Norway.  The two companies I like are Carlson and Nordic Naturals.  As far as I can tell, they have the same supplier but that is my guess.  I like both.

Omega 3 oils are important for total body health.  To make it simple the Omega 3’s are needed by every cell in the body to make the cell membranes.  The cell membrane is very important to total body health.  The omega 3’s make cell membranes more protective of inflammation.  So, the more Omega 3’s the less inflammation will occur in the body.  It’s like having the firefighters around the perimeter of your castle when a forest fire is coming verses arsonist.  In addition, the Omega 3’s allow communication to happen more easily by make the cell membrane more fluid.  Our skin is made of cell membranes so the Omega 3’s are very important for the skin.  There are many other properties to these oils that are important I just wanted to mention a few.  The oil is the basic reason for the ISD and I wanted to give you some of the reasons for it up front.

Here is the recipe:

Immune Support Drink

  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ to ½ cup yoghurt, goat or cow.
  • 3 Tablespoons Flax oil or 1 Tablespoon Fish Oil
  • 3 Tablespoons Lecithin Granules
  • 1 Tablespoon Brewers yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons Spirulina
  • 1 enzyme capsule (opened)
  • 1/3rd cup Whey protein
  • ½ cup blue berries frozen
  • ½ cup peaches frozen

Blend this all together and drink it with your multiple vitamins and other parts of your program.

Now you may wonder what is all this stuff.  Well I’m going to tell you:

Water:  It’s the most basic element needed for life except for air.  A person needs to drink 8 to 10 glasses a day on average to be healthy.  That’s 8-ounce glasses just in case you are wondering.  If you are thirsty then you are already dehydrated.  You should drink enough water to not get thirsty.  The less pop, cola’s, coffee, carbonated, sugary drinks you have the better. Filtered or spring water is my choice.

Yoghurt:  This adds protein and helps to blend the oil into the drink.  It has live cultures of good bacteria to help replenish the gut.  However, I don’t count on it for that for replenishing.  I think of it as a way to emulsify the oil so that it will absorb better.

Flax Oil:  The omega three fatty acids are very important to cellular heath in that they are used preferentially by the cell membranes as building blocks.  They are anti-inflammatory, promote nerve cells to function normally, lower cholesterol, protect the brain and memory and make us watertight.

Fish Oil:  I have mentioned above but I wanted to note that the fish oil is somewhat superior to the flax in some respects.  The fish oil has DHA/EPA, which are the important parts of the oil.  These are not found in flax oil.  We have to convert the flax into the DHA and EPA through and enzymes system in the body.  Now I recommend the lemon flavored fish oils in the drink.

Lecithin granules:  These have stood the test of time as a nutritional supplement.  They are great for the protection of nerve cells meaning memory, coordination, reflexes, all the senses and sexual function.  In addition, they serve to emulsify the flax oil and make it more absorbable.

Brewers yeast: This is an important source of B vitamins, protein and what I like most is it is a source of DNA and RNA that we need for repairing and building our own DNA and RNA.  This has stood the test of time too.

Spirulina:  Is a great source of protein, Beta-carotene, chlorophyll and other special nutrients for health.  I believe that Beta-carotene protects the skin from sun damage.  Beta-carotene is stored in the skin and when a UV light ray hits it the molecule changes shape and is carried out of the body.  My thought is that if a person has enough beta-carotene in their system they won’t get skin cancers.  The protection from inside is needed even more than the UV lotions and cream.  I still recommend the UV protection from lotions and creams but I’m more secure knowing that inside I’m prepared.  Beta-carotene is cleaved in the liver into two vitamin A’s.  I don’t count on it being enough vitamin A but I’m glad that it’s there.

Spirulina is almost a perfect food.  It has everything except for the B vitamins and enough calories to sustain a person.  It has beneficial Omega 6 oil in it called GLA.  Spirulina is currently being studied for one of its molecules called c-Phycocyanin.  This molecule may prevent cancers and promote the healthy immune system.  Chlorophyll helps us to make red blood cells and helps to detoxify the body.

Enzyme capsule:  I open the capsule and empty the contents into the drink.  This is to aid in digestion because the drink is not usually chewed as food is.  Chewing our food mixes it with enzymes from the mouth, which help to break it down when it gets to the stomach.  I want the get the most out of the drink that I can.

Whey protein:  This is the best source of protein that I know.  It is easily absorbed and tastes OK.  It has been used to support the immune system in severe conditions like Hepatitis C, which is where it first came into my view.  It has been fine for people that are allergic to dairy or have lactose intolerance.

Banana:  This is for taste, smoothness, potassium and I like it.

Dry Immune Support Drink:

This is used for traveling.  I put it into a baggie and it goes on the trip with me.

The recipe is:
  • 3 Tablespoons Lecithin Granules
  • 1 Tablespoon Brewers yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon Spirulina
  • 1 enzyme capsule
  • 1/3rd cup Whey protein

Mix all of these in these proportions in a reclosable plastic bag.  When you are ready to take it then pour about 1/3rd of a cup into 8 ounces of water mix and drink.  I discovered that this was great for camping too.  A friend and I were out, ate a freeze-dried meal, and didn’t feel satisfied.  Then we had this drink and we felt great.  We were sold after this and my friend is the one that asked me to include this recipe in my newsletter.

Take the multiple vitamin, some 2 to 3 fish oil capsules, and your set.

The only modification is I get the Lewis Labs lecithin.  In addition, you will notice that there is less Spirulina.  These changes make this more palatable. This is nice when you are on a trip.

All of these ingredients are available at your local health food store.  You could just bring in the recipe and they will help you find the ingredients.  I hope you find this information useful.  You can pass this on to anyone you think might like it.

May your health be blessed.

May your lives be blessed.

May your families be blessed

And may Blessing fill the World.

Sincerely,

Dr Harris
